Hodad's Downtown

A run-of-the-mill burger joint, but with more license plates. Wasn't a fan of the Bluejay personally, as the sauce overwhelmed any flavor the burger might have had.

Burgers are huge! A regular sized burger, I would say, would be the mini. Very nice "rock en español" music for ambiance. Perfect for the San Diego/binational/rock theme they are going for. Order came out in a timely manner.

Had the double cheese and couldn't believe how big the burger was when it came out. It had a small garden of veggies on the burger. It will be challenging to get your mouth around it. A little sloppy at the end but the meat had great flavor. We also had a chocolate malt and it was very good. Went for lunch and we didn't need dinner!

Fantastic! Everything I wanted and more! One waiter came out with the food and asked if we wanted ranch while the second waiter was hiding behind with two huge cups of ranch ready to go! Best believe if I lived in SD I’d be back on the regular! Plus check out those giant shakes AND this pastrami on my burger?!?! So tasty

Fun restaurant in Downtown San Diego. The burgers are huge and very tasty. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well. The shakes are gigantic.We loved the concert flyers covering the walls and windows.

Very good burger, quality ingredients, friendly and fast service. Big chips and very fair prices. Taking 4 hamburgers and a plate of fries in 4 (because they are abundant) we spent 10 $ each. I highly recommend!

Absolutely fascinating!!! I ordered the Blue Jay Burger and it was so delicious!!! Patty is very juicy and full of flavor. Blue cheese is creamy and yum. Bacon is crispy. Tomato and pickle along with yellow mustard and ketchup all bring the burger to a higher level. This is by far the best burger I have ever tried.

Perennial favorite and San Diego classic featuring burgers stacked so high with ingredients that they're practically bigger than your head. The toppings are fresh and the burgers are moist. The "frings" is a combination of onion rings and fries and is enough for an army. The onion rings on this visit weren't as great as I remember from back in the day. They were hard rather than crisp. Service is friendly, efficient and accommodating. If you've been staying away from the OB location due to the long line, the downtown location is easier to get into. Upbeat, casual atmosphere.

I love hodads!! The only thing I’ve tried there I don’t love is the chicken strips but honestly who goes there for chicken strips lol the burgers are so good and the staff is awesome!

Unfortunately did not like the quality of the burger. The portion size was big but the patty might as well have been from Walmart value pack and the bread was like wonder bread. Lettuce was almost turning bad as well I get that it’s a cool atmosphere and centrally located but did not even want to finish the burger. People working were friendly and had service this was simply for the quality of the product. I don’t understand the hype around the raving reviews.

Today was the first day back to Hodad's since the pandemic hit last year. So, it's been over a year since we've had our favorite bacon cheeseburger and frings. What can I say? They haven't missed a beat. Food and drink are always served the right way, and quickly! We never leave this place feeling hungry or unsatisfied. Customers since 2006, and beyond.

I tried Hodad’s for the first time this past weekend and enjoyed my burger. I had the pastrami burger and she had the regular burger. Onion rings were the best thing going tbh. Service was slow and the girl at the register had a poor attitude lol. I’ll prob just stick to in & out burger which has a better price point, friendly workers and a drive thru!

I order what I thought was a simple chocate shake then it came. Good lord! I was shocked and with the help of my kids and husband (they took a few scoops each) I was able to eat most of this. It was good, amazing and our waiters was fantastic. I had a grilled cheese that was awesome. My husband's burger was great. Our kids really liked it.That side of town may not be for everyone but I'd say it's worth it for sure.

Better than Macdonald's but not by much.It's a meh place with rude waitresses who keep forgetting your order, and act as if it's your fault. Also the chef doesn't know the difference between french fries and potato wedges. Their french fries will make the french want to kill themselves. The veggie burger was a torture and the grilled chicken burger is boiled chicken meat, with veggies cut the size appropriate for rhinos.The best part of the meal was the beer, which you can buy at a gas station for $1.

We ordered the double bacon cheeseburger, blue jay burger, cheeseburger, regular hamburger, onion rings, potato wedges and chili cheese fries, and 4 milkshakes- strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and neo. We ordered online and picked up and everything was ready earlier than initially stated, and hot. The people were all really nice and helpful and the inside of the place is really funky, covered in stickers and license plates, very cool. I read reviews about how big the double burger is wasn't sure if I was making a smart choice- it was absolutely massive and delicious. I am so glad I ordered it and very glad I ate it at home, because I got so gloriously messy while eating it, but didn't mind because it was so good. The chili on the wedges was so flavorful and the wedges were nicely seasoned. The onion rings had a really nice crunch to them and didn't leave our fingers oily. The milkshakes were really good, tasted like it was made with real ice cream, very good flavor and thickness. My family loved the rest of their food. We would definitely order again.

The burger was enormous and tasty. The home cut fries are good by themselves. The vanilla shake was delicious. The staff was friendly. I forgot my card and they put it away and helped me get it back when I came back in later.

It's a good thing that Hodad's is about 2000 miles away from me, otherwise I would want to eat here every day. These folks know how to make a burger. I've been twice and both times I have had one of the most incredible burgers ever. They are loaded and topped with wonderful goodies that make for one of the messiest and most delicious burgers you'll ever have. Tough call on whether to get fries or onion rings because they are both excellent, so get both. Outstanding beer options. And the service doesn't suck either. Can't wait to go back.

Great Burger spot ordered the Chesseburger with a basket of onion rings. The burger was really good the patty was juicy and the cheese was a great compliment. The service was great the food took less than 10 minutes. Highly recommend this place!

Cool spot. Atmosphere could get a better rating, but it was pretty empty when I got there. Service was ok, but got my order wrong. No need for 3 different people to come to the table for the job of the server. Overall, not too bad.

I've been to this location many times and the food did not disappoint. Unfortunately the last time I went my experience wasn't the best. 1st we had a little "misunderstanding " with the seating it was taken care of so I'll let it go. 2nd the food my companion ordered a mini burger with no tomatoes and mustard. It came no mustard and tomato. I had the fried chicken sandwich no mayo or mustard, it came with mustard. I didn't send it back I wiped it the best I could and ate it. The fries and onion rings are fantastic! I heard the original owner passed away and my condolences to the family. I don't know who's running this location now but to me, something has changed. I hope they get back to the core values of this place that made them so successful.

Order the cheeseburger along with the mini hamburger and Minnie cheeseburger, the mini burgers are actually not too many. The classic cheeseburger tasted amazing the ingredients were plentiful meaning the thick cut onion tomato and sauce. Probably one of the best burger places I have had in California.

Overall: The environment was a bit different than what I imagined. The music was loud rock mainly. The decor was... Gave me junkyard vybz. Nevertheless, it was a new experience for me and I appreciated it.Food: I had the single cheeseburger with fries. It was like any normal cheese burger. Nothing spectacular. The fries were the big wedges, which aren't my favourite.Service: server was friendly and seemed genuinely interested in taking good care of us. However, we specifically told him No Pickles on the burger... But as you can see... Pickles!Verdict: if you want a loud, eccentric experience to get a decent burger, then by all means, visit Hodad's!

Great quirky place with a nice ambience and plenty of seating. Service was a little on the slower side. Despite ordering one order of onion rings and two burgers, the food took a very long time to come. The onions rings were very good and in fact we had heard that the rings are awesome and we came here specifically to taste them.They have two vegetarian options for burgers, one veggie burger and another vegan patty. The veggie burgers were ok, nothing worth raving about.It is definitely a place worth checking out.

Have been wanting to try this place for years and finally got the opportunity. The bacon cheeseburger was very good. I did not taste as much bacon as I was expecting, but what really deserves the five star rating was the service. Our orders were taken and our questions answered with a smile. I would gladly return there if we get back to the San Diego area.

The food was GREAT. I had the chicken sandwich, and it was honestly perfect. The right amount of juuciness, right amount of crust. The pickle slices were perfectly thick and fresh, the chili was not greasy in the slightest. The people there were also SUPER nice, and truth be told id stay there so much longer if i could've. Definitely will be coming back to get the best chicken sandwich ive ever had.

Impeccable service with absolutely amazing food. I’m not normally into burgers but these were so super good. We got really lucky and got to sit in the cute little van too! Fries are flavorful and crispy with a pillowy inside. Couldn’t ask for more; this is heaven.

My parents and I had heard about Hodad's, and we had to see how amazing these burgers really were. They did not disappoint. They were fresh and cooked to perfection. I loved whatever sauce was on them - the sauce makes the burger, if you ask me. The decor was fun, and so were all the employees. I would absolutely visit again!
