Burger Pit

With all honesty, no bias. As a 21 year old who barely found out about this place back in November. It has got to be the best burger place to eat an old fashioned burger. Everyone is so friendly and the staff are just amazing, the food itself is also spectacular!I wish I found this place sooner, I feel so bad that it's closing soon.

This 60 year old burger joint will be closing its doors forever in April 2024. Very sad to see it go. Hamburgers are excellent! Go get one before they're gone! (My fave is the mushroom jack burger). The history of San Jose is posted all over the walls...there are not many places left where you feel as if you've stepped back in time but Burger Pit is one of those places.

12/3/2022. Last of the well known San Jose family burger. Lease ends April 2024. Family established. Reasonable prices, unlimited coffee for future visits with purchase of a Burger Pit coffee mug. They offer steer burger. Popular local support, lines are waiting for them to open.

This modern landmark is soon to close as the lease to the property isn't being renewed. The atmosphere is dated, keeping in line with its original motif. It'll be sad to see it go.

Old school restaurant. The store was established in 1964. The restaurant layout is old fashioned but business is good. The staff is very friendly and warm. The price is reasonable. Highly recommended.

First time here. Hopefully not the last especially before they close in April of next year.. ribeye sandwich was really good! Chili size was really good too! Damn everything we got was really good. As simple as the things we had there was nothing wrong with any of them! People here were amazing as well. Not just the staff but other customers too.

The chicken fried steak was crispy and tender and hot inside, the chili was homemade and tasty, but the Burgers ? stoled the Show!! Can you say Charbroiled Juicy and flavorful.Customer Service was Excellent and I am definitely coming again. My son had the Chicken fried steak and a SteerBurger, Sooo Delicious ?

Best burger in San Jose. This is not up for debate haha. Was my parents favorite burger spot for years and I am in hopes they stay open for good as I heard rumors they may close. So please go support, love the staff

If you want a classic old school dining experience, this is the place. Enter and step back in time. Friendly staff, good food. Can't go wrong here. Really enjoyed our burgers with friends. Girl helping out in dining area was friendly and frequently asked if we needed refills on drinks or anything else. Sadly, they may be closing in April 2024, so get here quick so you can enjoy some good food and nostalgia.

Hadn't been to a burger pit since the early 80's and the steerburger seemed the same as I remember! It's closing next yr so have to go back one more time and get the chili size which was my favorite almost 60 yrs ago!

My friends to me to this place. They have been going there for years. Good old style burger joint. As always, my dog sat next to me on the bench between my friend and I, not the least interested on the food. Like I said, my dog is smarter me.

Family favorite place for all occasions. Staff is friendly and like family to us. Prices are so much less than other places. The place is outdated because the landlord isn't renewing the lease. Sadly, it's going to close in April 2024. I've been coming to the various places for over 45 years. This is the last one left.

Great food, excellent service. You can not go wrong at The Burger Pit. Unfortunately, they will be closing their doors next year due to new housing being built on that property. So sad. I have had their chicken sandwich, turkey burger, cheese burger, panko shrimp, and steak, all very good. We will miss going their when they close their doors. If you get the chance to go, do so. They make really good milkshakes, too.

Ordered a Steak sandwich medium well with grilled onions and a side salad with bacon bits, croutons & thousand island. Well the steak was WELL DONE&DRY, BURNT ONIONS, much to my dissatisfaction, salad though was very good with thousand island but didn't like the fake bacon bits. I will give them another chance ?.

The steak was perfectly grilled, very soft and delicious. No salad bar but small salad was given with perfectly grilled buttered bread and fries. The clam chowder was very creamy and tasty. Very friendly environment and staffs. Loved it!

I always go there for dinner. I have the pete steak dinner. It is so yummy and delicious ?. The service is great and the employees are great ? and the manager is very nice ?. Very old school place which I love ❤. My mom was drifting on a memory talking about how she used to go there when she was young. Glad there are still places like this around! Also food was really good and very nice portions. I had the pork chop meal, the chops were cooked perfectly!

A little long, but definitely worth it in the end. One oddity they have though is serving burgers in bread rolls rather than buns. A little unorthodox but very creative and innovative

I keep coming back for the most basic of fare, including the steak sandwich and hamburgers. Both taste great, and are cooked to doneness requested. Fries are ok, they no longer have the salad bar and so are light on the fresh vegetables.

Still love this place!!! Been going here since I was a little girl with my grandmother. Im now 51 and still enjoy the yummy steak and baked potato. My favorite memory as a child would be ordering the chili with Saltine crackers with grandma and then immediately heading to the wood shelf on the wall for the weekly coloring sheet and styrofoam cups of crayons. Good times and great memories!!!

Although the atmosphere is unchanged from the 1970s, it's part of its nostalgic charm! The food was quite good. My steak was cooked a perfect medium-rare, and the baked potato was delicious! We had fun reliving Burger Pit memories, and best of all, it didn't cost a fortune!

Landmark family steakhouse/ Burger joint/chicken & shrimp & salad, etc. since the 40's & going strong obviously for many terrific reasons. The food is GREAT but the head waitress (who has been there for over 30 years, by the way!) and thoughtful, caring, attentive staff are what keeps us coming back year after year.It's a shame that the landlords are refusing to renew their lease and The Burger Pit may very well be closing later this year. Doesn't San Jose have enough condos already? Have a heart, landlords. Renew the lease and keep one of our friends and hometown traditions alive! It isn't progress when you have to wipe out a piece of history. It's just shameful. As locals we'd be losing a great place to gather with our family and friends all in the name of having the pleasure of looking at yet even more ugly apartment complex. Not too cool.Visit this place again or for the first time and you'll see what I mean. Thanks for all the Great meals, memories and such excellent service! 100 out of 5 stars!!

An awesome little burger shop with rustic decor and a small town feel. The menu was great, the food even better. The staff was friendly and worked quickly to get everyone taken care of. I didn't get the waitresses name, but she was sweet and always checked up on us every time she passed by. My new go to burger spot when I'm in the area.

Most of my reviews are complaints but this place was exactly what it needed to be!!! Burger was fresh and very well prepared! Baked potato instead of french fries and you'll thank yourself. Staff was friendly and quick. This random detour is now a favorite place! NOTE** Apparently the farm they have used for years is closing down :( I'm sure they will find a supplier with as fresh and tasty stuff as now BUT get the classic flavor ASAP
